This is always the first step in prophylaxis, and the goal is to clean tartar from the teeth. Since it is not possible to remove tartar with just a toothbrush and dental floss, the professional will use a device called an ultrasonic scaler or a specific instrument called a curette to scrape and remove dental tartar.
This is the next step after tartar removal. To remove stains from teeth caused by certain foods, a type of bicarbonate is diluted and applied with an instrument mixed with pressurized water. However, it is only used occasionally and in very specific circumstances, such as in patients with very stubborn stains.
The hygienist will thoroughly clean each and every one of your teeth using an electric toothbrush and dental floss.
A special prophylaxis toothpaste is used.
Fluoridation is not usually included in standard dental cleaning, as it is only applied in specific cases. It helps to remineralizer teeth and treat very early cavities. It is more common in pediatric dentistry and its use always depends on the professional’s assessment.

All the detailed information
How often should we get our teeth cleaned?
The frequency of prophylaxis varies depending on each case. It is most commonly performed every six months.
In cases where the dentist notices a greater accumulation of tartar, they may recommend a higher frequency. And in cases where the patient’s oral hygiene is optimal and their gums are in perfect condition, dental cleaning can be done only once a year.
Your dentist will know the optimal frequency for your particular case.
Is dental cleaning painful?
As a general rule, dental cleaning is painless. However, patients with sensitive gums may experience some discomfort during cleaning.
If your oral health is optimal, you should not feel any pain.
What is the recommended aftercare?
It is important that patients wait two hours before eating or drinking again after leaving the dental clinic following prophylaxis, to allow the fluoride to work for longer.
Prophylaxis is not a substitute for daily oral hygiene, so toothbrushes, toothpaste, and dental floss should be used after every meal.
How much does a dental cleaning cost in Zaragoza?
As is logical, the price of a dental cleaning varies depending on the clinic. It depends, among other factors, on the thoroughness of the cleaning, the duration, and the materials used.
The price of our professional dental hygiene service is €55.
As a complementary service, we offer a complete check-up by a member of the medical team.
The approximate duration is 30 minutes.
What are the objectives of dental prophylaxis?
The purpose of prophylaxis is to keep the mouth healthy and avoid the risks of periodontal and oral diseases such as gingivitis or tooth decay.
This is achieved by cleaning and disinfecting each tooth and gum.
The second objective of prophylaxis is routine monitoring of the patient’s mouth. Checking for tooth decay or poorly fitting prostheses, for example, is easily resolved.
